Caesalpinia sappan L. is a plant used in traditional systems of medicine for different therapeutic purposes. The plant was said to possess anthelmintic, antiarthritic, antithrombotic, hepatoprotective, antiallergic and antimicrobial activities. This study was aimed at evaluating the antihyperglycemic potential of the parts of the plant namely, heartwood, bark and aerial parts. Peripheral uptake of glucose by GLUT-4 and utilization of glucose are trivial for normal glucose homeostasis. The bark of the tree was found to stimulate glucose uptake in L6 cell lines.
